Reflections on our first event with SKY Social Work

We were delighted to attend our first community event as SKY Social Work, joining a range of professionals at the Dementia Information Event held at Kesgrave Community Centre, organised by Home Instead.

We are very grateful to have been given the opportunity to take part and to connect with other professionals who share our commitment to supporting people living with dementia and their family carers. It was encouraging to see such a breadth of expertise represented, all with the shared aim of improving awareness and access to support within our community.

Although attendance from members of the public was lower than hoped, we were able to have several positive and meaningful conversations with those who came along. These exchanges reinforced the importance of continuing to raise awareness and to make information about available services as accessible as possible. It is difficult to say why attendance was limited, though it may have been related to the timing of the event in the afternoon.

Overall, we found the experience very worthwhile and are keen to attend future community events. We also hope to play a role in supporting the promotion and advertising of such initiatives, to help ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from the valuable information and advice being shared.

At SKY Social Work, our aim is to make the processes around Deputyship clearer and more accessible. We recognise that these are often sensitive and complex areas, and we are passionate about helping families to overcome the barriers that can make it difficult to have these conversations or take the next steps to support their loved ones. Engaging with the community through events like this allows us to continue those important discussions and ensure that families feel informed, supported, and empowered.
